Concept

Modern | Clean | Powerful | Dynamic

Tuscaloosa is for visionaries. A city of champions. We’re a city government that inspires imagination, nurtures technology and desires the very best for every citizen. At the same time, we are approachable and inclusive. Warm and welcoming.

A bold “T” with dynamic arrows represents the many nuances of our nature. It connotes strength, growth and innovation. It symbolizes always moving forward and striving for excellence. This mark fully encompasses the City’s progressive goals to become successfully data-driven and results-oriented in every scope of work. But at the same time, the subtle use of American Indian design elements says that our drive to get where we’re going doesn’t come without respect for where we’ve been.

Like the City itself, the mark is distinctive and bold enough to deliver on the promise that Tuscaloosa truly is a city of champions.

Primary Version

diagram

The City of Tuscaloosa logo consists of the T symbol and word mark. It is available in different configurations.

The City of Tuscaloosa primary logo is the horizontal version. Wherever possible, this primary version should be used. The design of the logo has been considered carefully and should not be altered or rearranged in any way.

Area of Isolation

To ensure prominence and clarity, careful consideration should be given to the space that surrounds the logo. The protected space is to be 0.25” around the entire logo (at any proportion or size.) The clear space must remain free of any other element, copy, graphic or tint. This applies to all versions of the logo, T symbol and word mark.

Reversing the Logo

The effectiveness of clear space can be seen in the examples shown to the left (the logo in negative). These examples also show a proper use of the City of Tuscaloosa logo when it is “reversed out,” which is defined as appearing in all white and color reversed on a dark-colored background.

T Symbol and Word Mark

The T symbol and word mark can be used alone to accommodate many different media and print parameters. The T symbol and word mark have been specially crafted and must not be altered in any way.

NOTE: When using the T symbol or word mark alone and not as the full logo, the other logo elements MUST NOT be visible on the print or media. They must either stand alone as shown here or as designed in full as shown on the previous pages.

The T arrows element from the T symbol may be used, when appropriate, for bullet points, callouts or captions.

Improper Logo Usage

not/break

DO NOT break the “lock-up” (the relationship) between the graphic and the type. For example, do not move the T symbol to the right of the word mark as shown.

not_break5

DO NOT distort the shape of the logo. It is extremely important that when placing the logo in a document and then resizing it, that the height and width remain constrained in the proper aspect ratio (proportion). For example, when placing the logo in a Word document or PowerPoint and then reducing it, click and drag on a corner of the picture box. This will ensure that the logo does not get distorted.

not_break

DO NOT place the logo on or over a patterned background, distracting image or background.

not_break3

DO NOT change the color. Approved colors are included in this guide under Colors

not_break2

DO NOT place a drop shadow behind the logo or a reflective shadow below.

Proportions must be similar or the same when appearing on print or digital applications. If both logos appear on a horizontal plane together they must be centered with each other and the height of the logo and seal must be the same.

The seal is to be used by the City of Tuscaloosa only. All outside and supporting agencies are to use a version of the logo, and must comply with the visual standards outlined in this guide.
