Mayor Walt Maddox Appoints Captain Hollis Baughn Acting Fire Chief

City of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox has appointed Captain Hollis Baughn as acting Fire Chief, effective November 23, 2024.

Captain Baughn has served with Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue for 21 years and was promoted to his current rank in October of 2018.

The City of Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue announced the retirement of Fire Chief Randy Smith on October 30. Smith was named Fire Chief by Mayor Walt Maddox in 2018 with 31 years of experience in fire and rescue services. Chief Smith’s last day in office will be Friday, November 22, 2024.

“Captain Baughn brings to this position a wealth of front-line experience. His knowledge and passion for serving our citizens is contagious and I look forward to working with him in the following months,” Mayor Walt Maddox said. "I am confident that Captain Baughn is the right person to hold this foundation steady as we execute a national search for the next Fire Chief for our City.”
