Mayor Walt Maddox has appointed Eric Thompson Executive Director of Construction, Facilities & Grounds, effective September 19. Thompson has worked with the City for over 15 years, most recently as the Acting Executive Director of Construction, Facilities & Grounds.

Prior to serving in this role, Thompson served as the Business Relations Officer. From 2007 to 2016, he served with the Planning Department as Senior Planner.

“I appreciate Eric for stepping into to the acting director role over the past few months, and have been thoroughly impressed by his leadership of this large department,” Mayor Walt Maddox said. “I am confident that he is the right fit and excited to welcome him to the leadership team.”

Thompson is a Birmingham native and holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Auburn University.
