Tuscaloosa’s Historic Evergreen Cemetery Receives TLC
November 14, 2019
Tuscaloosa’s historic Evergreen Cemetery received some TLC this month thanks to a group of community volunteers. Members of the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club, University of Alabama faculty and staff, and residents of Tuscaloosa’s District 4 along with newly elected Councilor Lee Busby organized a clean-up of the Evergreen Cemetery on Nov. 2.
The cemetery, which sits across Paul Bryant Drive from Bryant-Denny Stadium, predates college football in the City with graves dating back to the early 1800s. Some of the people buried in Evergreen Cemetery have no living relatives left in Tuscaloosa to upkeep their graves. The City commends this group of citizens for volunteering their Saturday to care for this historic site.
