The City of Tuscaloosa seeks to partner with commercial property owners to increase business visibility, stimulate private investment, contribute to a more inviting commercial environment, and complement other community and economic development efforts.
Facelift, our storefront improvement program, is an incentive opportunity for business and property owners to share the responsibility of enhancing their storefronts. The partnership is intended to assist projects that promote retail activities, create a more attractive environment, encourage neighborhood character and architectural design, and use quality materials. The program also supports Tuscaloosa contractors and the workers they employ.
Eligible buildings are commercially zoned with storefronts visible from the street. New construction will not be considered for this program. Priority will be given to buildings located among highly trafficked areas and thoroughfares within low to moderate census tracts within the City of Tuscaloosa.
Program funding is awarded in the form of a one-time reimbursement. The applicant must pay a minimum of 20% of the total cost of the project and the city will not reimburse more than $25,000 per project.
As part of the final request for reimbursement, applicants will need to provide a photo of the building’s completed storefront. Program recipients may be required to complete an informational survey and make a statement about the project.
